KEEN SCORES ANOTHER MAJOR WIN

Author:- Redline Media
DESPITE focusing the majority of his 2024-25 season campaign on his rookie 410 Sprintcar season with the Cowara Motorsport team, Michael Keen has still managed to make numerous appearances in the Limited Sprintcar class, where after capturing his fifth King of Wings victory in a row earlier this season, he last Saturday night picked up the third Western Australian Title victory of his career.
The 28-year-old from Bunbury in Western Australia has in recent seasons in the Limited Sprintcar class has had a tough run with engines, but anyone who knows the Keen family knows that they are not quitters. They have persisted with trying to consistently stay and finish at the front of the field in the competitive Limited Sprintcar class, and earlier this season, he created history by scoring his fifth King of Wings win at the Perth Motorplex. With only a handful of appearances in Limited Sprintcars to his name, which included the King of Wings triumph, Keen was hungry to drive to his third ever Western Australian Limited Sprintcar Title win.
After battling with engine woes heading into the 2025 Western Australian Title at Albany Speedway, which saw the team damage their engine after they had recently finished second in the Krikke Boys Shootout event at the Perth Motorplex, Keen was forced to borrow a reliable engine from his pop, Paul Keen. As a thankful for the loan of the engine, Keen and his team ran the car # 116 in honour of pop’s wonderful support, and it was interesting to note that Keen’s two previous Western Australian Limited Sprintcar Title victories in 2016 and 2021 have come about when using the car # 116.
When it came to Keen’s 2025 Western Australian Title campaign, he had a near perfect night aboard the # 116 Boyanup Cellars / Keens Truck Driver Training supported Triple X car, after he was second quickest in qualifying time trials, before domaining both of his heat races and then leading the Western Australian Title deciding feature race for the entire 30- lap distance.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better way to pick up my third Western Australian Title win, and it was a great relief to put the full night together and have it been the biggest event on the Limited Sprintcar calendar,” expressed Keen. “With running both the Limited Sprintcar and 410 Sprintcar on the same weekend in completely different areas of the state, it was a massive effort from the entire team, and winning the Western Australian Title was the best possible way to reward them.
“I can’t thank pop (Paul Keen) enough for the loan of the engine, as we have been struggling with engine reliability in recent seasons, so it was fantastic to be able to use his engine and bring home a Western Australian Title win. Pop has always been a massive supporter of my racing from the beginning, so it’s special that all three of my Western Australian Title wins have been with his heavy involvement, especially with running his car number on all three occasions.”
With his debut season in the 410 Sprintcars close to wrapping up, Keen has been making more and more gains aboard the WA # 41 Cowara Motorsport Triple X car, which has not only seen him break into the top 10 in a feature race but also the top 10 of the current point standings for the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series. “Stepping into 410 Sprintcars for the first season comes with so much to learn, and I’ve had my fair share of lessons so far this season, but the team and I are improving our speed, and
we are starting to get some pleasing results and it’s great to be within the top 10 of the Maddington Toyota Series points,” he said.
“It’s been a lot of fun working with the Cowara Motorsport team and I can’t thank Steve and Sharron Duggan enough for believing in me and putting me into the car, and I’m glad that we are starting to jell as a team and I’m looking forward to what our future holds.” Latest Maddington Toyota Series Point Standings (after 19 of 22 rounds):
