Tasmanian Jock Goodyer has set himself up nicely for a second Australian Championship after claiming the Preliminary Feature on the opening night of the City of Mount Gambier Australian Sprintcar Championship at the Borderline Speedway. In what proved to be a great battle for the lead Goodyer got the better of early race leader Ryan Newton who held onto the runner-up position with another former National Champion Lockie McHugh completing the podium.

Defending Champion James McFadden had a solid night as he finished fourth with Daniel Pestka being the first of the South Australians in fifth. Brock Hallett, Todd Moule, Joel Heinrich, Kaiden Manders and Mount Gambier local Parker Scott completed the top ten. 

Unfortunately, the main event saw Ian Madsen, who was driving the Downing Brothers #S97, involved in a nasty crash on the back straight with Madsen requiring a trip in the ambulance. 

Several other drivers were involved in some big crashes earlier in the night including heat accidents for Max Guilford and Peter Doukas, who tangled in turn 1 in heat 3 and Jy Corbet, who rolled in turn four in heat 5 after contact with a spinning Jordyn Charge.

The B-Main also saw the demise of a number of cars including Ben Morris and Matt Egel, who both rolled in turn three, and Glen Sutherland, who hit the wall in the same corner.

Earlier the ten heat winners were Todd Moule, Daniel Storer, Dayne Kingshott, Ian Madsen, Randy Morgan, Brock Hallett, Parker Scott, Ryan Newton, Jock Goodyer and James McFadden.

The four drivers to transfer from the B-Main were Matthew Dumesny, Dayne Kingshott, Ian Madsen and Daniel Sayer.
