Another win, another 'shoey' from McFadden
Author:- MADDINGTON TOYOTA SPRINTCAR SERIES
James McFadden put himself in the box seat for the $100,000 to win sprintcar feature race at the Perth Motorplex on Monday night after another big win on Sunday night. The eastern states-based driver who has returned from racing professionally in America, has won the first two nights of the High Limit International: Perth event that has attracted some of the best sprintcar drivers from around Australia and overseas.
His latest win was from American Cole Macedo and South Australian Matt Egel in the event that was also round eight of the 2024-25 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series. The win was McFadden’s third for newly-formed WA-based Brady Motorsport. He started outside of Kyle Larson on the front row for the 30-lap final and it was Larson who led until lap nine before he clouted the concrete fence and had to go to the work area for repairs, resuming back in the pack.
From there McFadden took the lead which he held until the checkers, after being third quickest overall in qualifying, taking a third in his heat race and a second in the Dash. Macedo came from p6, getting to fourth in the early laps, before settling into second on lap 10, which he held until the finish. Earlier in the show Macedo was eighth quickest in qualifying and won his heat race, from pole, before finishing sixth in the Dash after starting from p8.
Egel lined up from p4 in the final, on the back of being seventh quickest in qualifying and winning his heat race from the pole. He moved up a row for the final after starting sixth and finishing fourth in the Dash. Egel was into third early but dropped back to fifth on lap 17 before recovering well after a couple of great racing duels.
American Brad Sweet was fourth, after starting from p5, backing up his third, also from P5, the previous night. Former Australian sprintcar champion Jock Goodyer took fifth after starting from p11, showing plenty of pace in the T22 - a big turnaround from the previous night where he failed to transfer from the B Main. American Brock Zearfoss finished on a positive night to take sixth after coming from p19, while Kaiden Manders was the first local driver home in seventh, after starting from p10.
Fellow American Cory Eliason also had a big run home, starting from 23rd and finishing eighth, after finishing third in the B Main. He was followed by two more countrymen in Larson in ninth and Gio Scelzi in 10th, from a p12 start.
Queenslander Ryan Newton started 16th and finished 11th, a better result after crashing out the previous night, while Callum Williamson started p8 and finished 12th, Kerry Madsen started 20th and finished 13th, Jack Williamson started 17th and finished 14th and Brad Maiolo started and finished 15th.
AJ Nash was 16th after winning the B Main on the line from Andrew Priolo, while Aaron Chircop was 17th and Tim King, in only his third race meeting of the season, was 18th after surprising many with a great heat race win and a seventh in the Dash.
Dayne Kingshott, Taylor Milling and Justin Whittall were all out on lap 19 after Whittall spun around at the top of turn two and the others were caught up in the incident.
Luke Oldfield, Jason Kendrick and Andrew Priolo were the other non-finishers. After a delayed start, due to power outages in the area, Sweet was the quickest in qualifying while heat race wins went to King, Williamson, Egel and Macedo.
A massive crowd is expected at the venue for the High Limit finale which is the fourth night of a nine-night Speedweek series in Western Australia.
