THE Bohud Racing team and their driver Michael Stewart recently returned from their Southern Swing adventure, where they competed in two of the country's biggest 2024-25 season 410 Sprintcar events. Enjoying solid form leading up to the Southern Swing trip with a total of four feature race victories at their home track: Sydney International Speedway, the Bohud Racing team carried a fair bit of confidence into the Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway in Victoria and the Australian Championship at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia; however, it was turned out to be a character building campaign.

Competing in the Grand Annual Classic for the first time together, Michael and the Bohud Racing team stood tall during the event, which included winning a heat race during his qualifying night, but some misfortune during the preliminary feature race with a DNF after being driven up into the wall, hurt their qualifying night points. On the third and final night, Michael started from position 11 in B main 1, but he struggled to move forward and missed out on a top four feature race transfer spot after a 10th place finish.

After coming away from a mixed Grand Annual Classic campaign, the Bohud Racing team headed to South Australia to the new-look Tolmer Speedway in Bordertown for a midweek race meeting, where they managed to qualify directly into the feature race and went on to greet the chequered flag in 14th. In what was their second attempt at an Australian Championship, Michael and the Bohud Racing team were aiming to finish their Southern Swing adventure on a high for their first ever visit to Murray Bridge Speedway. 

It was a mixed run on the opening night, where Michael was innocently involved in a crash during his second heat race and it caused heavy damage to his NS # 14 ARRMA Australia / Illawarra Truck Repairs & Spares supported Triple X car, which left the Bohud Racing team pondering if they called it a weekend and head back to their home base. However, the Bohud Racing team pushed on and competed in the second and final night, where they managed to qualify into the Australian Championship
deciding feature race via a B main transfer. Starting from position 19 in the feature race, Michael moved forward, but his run was hampered when he suffered a broken jacob’s ladder after contact with the wall, and he finished 13th in the 40-lap event.

The Bohud Racing team were one of the highest finishing NSW-based teams in the Australian Championship feature race, and they improved on last weekend’s Australian
Championship effort at Premier Speedway, where they missed out on a spot in the Australian Championship decider after finishing 10th in the B main. “It was certainly a challenging fortnight for the whole Bohud Racing team, but everyone never stopping trying and we learned so much testing ourselves up against the country’s best racers in unfamiliar territory,” commented Bohud Racing team driver, Michael Stewart.

“To round out the Australian Championship weekend by qualifying and finishing into the feature race was quite satisfying for everyone, when you look back on it, and although I felt that had it not been for the broken jacob’s ladder in the middle of race I probably could’ve finished a lot higher.” Bohud Racing team owner Scott Jones was full of praise for his team and their families. “It’s certainly been the busiest fortnight for the whole team since stepping into Sprintcar racing three seasons ago,” he said.

“A massive thanks must go to the team for all of their work night after night, as well as their families back home for holding everything together while we were out on the road, and a special thanks to the Jenkin family from Tatiara Truck & Trailers in South Australia for their hospitality.” The next outing for the Bohud Racing team will be this Saturday night at Dubbo Speedway in the central western of NSW. Last season, the Dubbo track was a happy hunting ground for the Bohud Racing team, after they claimed a Regional Rumble Series round win there, as well as a second place finish in the NSW Title there.
